Hi, Want to see if this is reasonable. October 20, We want to fly from Venice to Lyon via Easyjet. Stay in Lyon for a 3 nights with hopes of a day trip to Chamonix if the weather is good. Then train to Beaune for two nights, then on to Paris via train. In addition would it be reasonable to take a day trip from Lyon to Annecy and on to Saint Gervais and back to Lyon in the same day? I'm trying to avoid too many hotels changes. Thanks in advance for the advice.
I have not been to any of your Alpine destinations, more's the pity. But it does not look as though Lyon is a good base for a day trip to Chamonix. It's 4+ hours each way by bus and rail. That's the thing about mountainsthey are slow. That same route, however, goes via Annecy and St. Gervais. Suggseting that if you really want to visit Chamonix and are willing to give way on the "too many hotels" thing you could perhaps fly into Geneva, get to Chamonix, and then make brief visits to St. Gervais and Annecy as you travel to Lyon.
I'm wondering if I go to Chamonix, if I should just suck it up and spend a day getting there by way of stopping off in Anncey and then spend the night in Chamonix(or Saint Gervais)in hopes that the weather cooperates and we can take the gondola to the top of Mt. Blanc the first thing in the morning. Back to more research.
