I will be buying the Paris Metro pass and I am wanting to only get the one for zones 1-3....but it doesn't include CDG airport. The apartment that I am renting is in the 15th district and in zone 2. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get from the airport to my apartment? Is there a taxi service that I can make an arrangement with?
I will probably be getting there earlier then my check in time....is there a way that I can get a ride into paris central and then just take the metro when I'm ready to go to my apartment? Also I will be traveling to London on New Years Day....do you know if public transportation is available on new years day in paris and london? What about new years eve? Thanks everyone for your help, Megan
Any reason why you can't just get a single ticket from CDG to the edge of zone 3? In London New Year's Eve usually has Saturday services on public transport. Travel after midnight is usually free and extra all-night bus services often run. New Year's Day usually has a Sunday service which sometimes means lots of engineering work on tube and railways.
Megan - Here is a couple of web sites that may help you get from CDG to your apartment in the 15th. www.parisbytrain.com www.ratp.fr/en/ratp/c_5000/accueil/
Megan from airport to Paris, RER (train) costs about 10 -11 euros. Takes about 35 minutes. Easy to find at airport, but make sure you can handle your luggage, one bag is best. Or taxi, taxi stand easy to find at airport, no prebooking needed. Cost will vary by time of day and traffic but from 45-55 euros would be average. A "pass" for transport within Paris,, do you mean the Navigo pass? That runs for seven days, from Monday to Sunday only, so not good for shorter trip, or if you trip day starts on like a weds or something. Not sure of price, but think it was a 5 euro fee up front for card, you must have a smaller then passport sized photo ,and it loads for 16-17 euros for the mon-sun week. A Carnet is ten single travel tickets sold at a discount, its 11 euros, I find depending on where I am staying, I use one or two a week.. less in nice weather as I walk alot.
A single ticket on the RER B from CDG to central Paris costs €9.25 and includes unlimted transfers to the metro and/or other RER lines until you exit the system. Since you mention a zone 1-3 pass, I assume you are talking about the Paris Visite. It's overpriced. A zone 1-2 Navigo Semaine (€19.15) loaded on a passe Navigo Decouverte card would be your best pass, but it's good for Monday-Sunday, not any seven-day period. The card costs €5.00 and is good for 10 years. You have to provide a small photo to attach to the card. If you will arrive in the middle of the week, you may be better off buying ten-ticket carnets as needed, especially if you like to walk. The current cost for a carnet is €12.70.
