From Marco Polo Airport to Our Hotel in Venice

What is the best way to get there...? Private taxi...Our travel agent quoted $150 per person one-way, but guidebooks say it's about $100 Euros for up to four...What gives...HELP?

Your travel agent is padding your trip for his commissions. You can get a bus from the airport to Piazzale Roma and then a vaporetto ride to near your hotel for about 10 Euros.

Tell your travel agent you will do it on your own. Get teh bus at Marco Polo and a vaporetto to the stop nearet your hotel. Get directions from the hotel. If the TA cannot get this, Google the name of the hotel and see if there are directions on the website, if not, email the hotel and ask them. Be aware that the address is not enough. In Venice, addresses are not logical.

Thanks for the tips...we are planning on taking the water taxi to the door of our hotel...It's a bit of a splurge, but we are older...and will have been on the plane for 12+ hours, jet lagged and want to get settled fairly quickly I know the water taxi is more than the Vaporetta, and boat shuttles, but all the tour books say the private water taxi is 110 euros for the TRIP...not each passenger...am I right?

For the trip. Not per passenger. No need to book. I still don't trust your travel agent...

I concur. No need to book. You can do that once you land. If this is your first trip to Venice, the water taxi (if you can afford it) is a special treat. And, it is not per person. I'd be worried about the advice your travel agent is giving you.

Thank you one and all...told the agent to cancel the reservations...(along with her 100 percent markup) and we'll arrange for the water taxi when we get there!!!!
