From Malpensa to the town of Como....

Bus to Central train station -- about an hour. Traim to Como -- about an hour or little more plus time inbetween.

There is a bus that goes directly from Malpensa to the city of Como. See Malpensa airport web site for link. You can also take the Malpensa Express train from the airport to Sarrono then change trains to Como total time about 1 1/2 hours(both trains run by Ferrovia Nord not TrenItalia).

One quick note. If you are in Lake Como and need to get to another part of the Lake (ie: Bellagio) make sure you select the correct Ferry. My sister got married in a Villa on the other side of the Lake and no one told us there is a so called Express Ferry. Needless to say, the ferry we took stopped at each and every stop. It was relaxing but it took like 2 hours when it could have been 45 minutes.

From the airport there is a train that takes you to Como but you have to transfer. So if you have lots of luggage (and you should not, if you follow Rick! LOL) you will have to haul the luggage from one train to another.

William and Michele, thank you both so much for your very helpful responses. It helps to know the time frame ! I'd always thoufht the trip to Como was a lot shorter so it's good to have the approximate time.
Plus, we really appreciate knowing about the Express ferry!! That certainly makes a huge difference--didn't even know they existed!
Not a lot of luggage for us--we learned the hard way years ago-lol!!
