From Dubrovnik to Rome--Ferry/Train vs. Flying?

Hi,
I will be traveling with some friends next month and we will be leaving Dubrovnik around Sun 6/14 to go to Rome. Cost maybe an issue for some of us, so the thought was to save money by doing the ferry from Dubrovnik to Bari and then catching a train to Rome. The cost of the ferry per person seems to be around 100 euros (or dollars, can't remember) and I can't seem to find any timetables for trains from Bari to Rome.

Does anyone know whether:
a) if there is indeed an train from Bari to Rome overnight? The ferry schedule I saw from Dubrovnik had an 8pm arrival in Bari or one that arrives on Monday morning sometime
b) Would we really saving a lot of money by doing the ferry/train thing or is it not really worth the time lost as well as the hassle? I found a flight w/2 stops for around $413 w/Croatia Airlines.

Thanks in advance!

There is a train from Bari to Rome that leaves at 00:15 and arrives Rome Termini at 6:29. The fare is E33. You can find all of the schedules and fares at www.trenitalia.com. There is an English language tab at the top of the page.

Hi, Gina.

There are budget airlines that fly into Venice, and Venice to Rome very cheaply. Might be another option for you. RyanAir from Venice is about 50UER, 2 flights a day. Trains can be super cheap if you book in advance, the night train is about 300USD for a4 person couchette sleeper.

The ferries are great, IF they are running on the day you are there. The schedule before July is a bit scattered. (There are also many other options up the coast to Venice again, about 6 different places ferries run out of.).

*Definitely try to avoid having to train or bus the whole way. It's a long route, with *really inconvenient times.
