from Amsterdam to Prague train or bus?

bought easyjet ticket to amsterdam from prague for $115 - return flight would be @ $300!! trying to find cheaper option. Have student ID but am 68 yrs odl and student prices may not apply to me - train prices also seem to be unreasonably high - was hoping to see Germany from the train but the only train i can find is overnight AMS-Prague. Am certain there must be other trains - point to point via Berlin for sure but cannot find them -

If you want to take the train for scenic aspects you need to make sure it's not the ICE train from AMS to Frankfurt (which runs underground a lot of the time) but you take the Rhine river valley route. You can take the ICE from AMS to Düsseldorf or Cologne, but then must change onto an IC or EC to e.g. Basel. Make sure the train stops at Koblenz (which is your guarantee that it takes the scenic route). Such an IC would then also take you into Frankfurt Airport station where you can change onto an EC/IC or ICE to Nuremberg from where you'd take the DB Bus to Prague.

I'm not sure what you want to do. Do you want to get on a single train Amsterdam and go all the way to Prague without changes, and just "see" Germany through the train window? You're right. The only connection between Amsterdam and Prague without changes is a night train. But there are any number of multi-train connections that will go between Amsterdam and Prague. You can find these connections by using German Rail (Bahn) website. Right away, I see a 12½ hr connection with a change of trains in Netherlands (Hilversum) about 20 min after leaving Amsterdam and another one in Berlin. The Bahn will show you the most direct connections if you just put in the start and end, but you can change the route using the "stopover" function. BTW, don't let the "bus" from Nuernberg to Prague scare you. It's a modern over-the-road coach with a bathroom, attendant, and snackbar. People who have taken it recommend it.

Hi, If you rather do this Amsterdam-Prague by day, I myself would do this: take Amsterdam-Duisburg ICE, direct, then Duisburg-Berlin direct on ICE, at Berlin Hbf tranfer to the Berlin-Prague direct. You'll arrive in Prague at 1926. Take that particular connection Berlin-Prague as to avoid changing in Dresden. This way you change only twice at major stations, Duisburg and Berlin, without being rushed.
