You have to sign up for an airline's program on the airline's website using a user name and password. Once you obtain a frequent flyer unique number, make sure to add that number to your airline itinerary on the airline's website. Where did you book your ticket from? If a 3rd party (not the actual airline website), then you will have that 3rd party's booking reference number..but ultimately you need to know that the airline booking # is, which is different from the 3rd party number...both numbers are typically written on the confirmation page, so just find the correct one. Hopefully this makes sense..if not, PM me.

John,
First, who did you book your tickets through? Second, which airline operates the flight? Which airport are you flying out of and/or connecting through in the US? These questions will assist in determining the best frequent flyer program for you based on your travel habits. When you fly to other places within the US, so you use the same airport(s) as your flight to Europe. Once you've answered these questions we can help you "find" your reservation and select the best FF program for your situation.

What we are missing, John, is details. Need to know your exact flight arrangements. Most frequent flyer miles are accumulated via credit cards so that is where you start. You need to decide which airline is most likely serve you best from your location.

Once you get your account set up and airline picked out, get their credit card. Usually they have a start up mileage bonus of 50,000 miles or so after you start making purchases. After that, try and use your card on all of your day to day purchases and monthly bills. As long as you pay it off each month then it really makes sense as you will see your FF mileage account start to increase and before you know it you will have enough miles for your next trip.
