I am trying to buy a Point-to-Point ticket in France from Paris to Metz. I would like to buy it directly from SNCF via their website, but when I enter my credit card number I am informed that the transaction was not accepted by my bank (I've tried two different cards). Is the problem simply that they won't sell to people with American credit cards or something else? If I can't buy from SNCF, is there another site I can use in hopes of finding a decent deal? Thanks.

The SNCF site does accept US credit cards. While the problem in your case may be a temporary glitch on the site, it's also possible that your card companies are blocking the transaction because a computer recognizes a purchase from Europe as being unusual and therefore possibly fraudulent. Call your card companies and check before trying to book again on the SNCF site.
Thanks, Tim. That worked. I didn't expect the same transaction to be blocked by multiple cards, especially since I've bought other tickets for my trip with no problem. There must be something fishy in how SNCF posts their transactions. Thanks again.
