French - Italian Train Travels

Hello,

I've been fretting over some tickets I wanted to purchase online from Nice to Milan. When you search the DB website it shows a train that leaves around 0700 and arrives around 12:50. It is an R and an ICPlus train. I haven't been able to find anywhere that I can reserve this ticket online, (it does require a reservation) and RailEurope offers a later train that you can book (at 1800 in the evening). Should I worry about the availability of this train, or not fret and reserve at a rail desk in France when I arrive?

Your trip involves 2 trains - a regional train from Nice to Ventimiglia and an ICPlus train from Ventimiglia to Milan. You should be able to purchase tickets for the ICPlus train (including required reservation) in advance, but probably cannot buy the regional ticket until you arrive in Europe. I always buy my train tickets in Europe (unless buying a discount fare), but it all depends on how firm your schedule is and your comfort level in waiting.

Thanks, I think I will wait until arrival to purchase these tickets. I'd hate to buy a ticket for the second train, then not be able to make the connection. I appreciate the response.

Actually, you can't reserve any tickets online. You can buy them and any supplement or seat reservation comes with it.

CLICK HERE to see the Trenitalia train schedule. I'm only looking 60 days out and I see more trains than shown on RailEurope. You do have more options. Note that 10:04 train has no train changes. The standard 2nd class fare is 30Euro.

You can easily buy the tickets as soon as you arrive in Nice which hopefully, is a day or two in advance of your departure.
