Free S-Bahn with German Saverpass?

I read online and in the Rick Steve's book that the S-bahn and buses are free with your Eurail pass. My question is, is it only free on a day where you've used your pass, or is it good for the entire two month period of time that your pass is valid? i.e. - We're spending a few days in Munich, but will only be using our Eurail pass to get to Munich and then when we leave Munich. During the days while we're already in Munich, can we use the buses and S-bahn for free?

Nice try, but 'no'. S-bahns and some buses are like any other conveyances (ICEs, ICs, REs) for which you can use the rail pass. The pass has to be cancelled (the date written in) for that day. Also, I understand that a rail pass is not valid for some S-bahns in Berlin (those lines that do not include the Hbf).

While you are in Munich, there are some very good deals on all-day passes. An inner zone day ticket, valid for S-/U-bahns, streetcars, and buses, is just €9,- for up to five people traveling together. Almost everything anyone wants to see in Munich (x Dachau) is in the inner zone. See www.mvv-muenchen.de.
