What is the least expensive way to travel from
Frankfurt to Rome for two adults (seniors)?
When are you traveling? I see 32-Euro flights Frankfurt Hahn to Rome during June. It costs 13 Euros to catch a bus from Frankfurt to Hahn airport. http://www.ryanair.com http://www.hahn-airport.de/default.aspx?menu=by_bus&cc=en If you want to go by train, get advance-sale tickets at http://www.bahn.de for as little as 43 Euros (purchase no earlier than 92 days in advance, but they go fast.)
We need to drop our camper off outside of Frankfurt
on May 27, 2011 and get to Rome by Sunday, May 29th.
However, if you go by Ryanair be aware that if you check a bag it's 15euros one way, and the max weight is 15kg ( 33 pounds). Carry on is 10 kg (22 pounds). I don't think you can have a heavy bag, you just need to check more bags and thus pay more.
Ryanair does have baggage issues. I travel light and use only a carry-on, so they're not issues for me. I see there's a Hahn-Rome flight on 5/28 at 6:20 am. aargh. But even with a checked bag each and 30 more euros, the fare for two is under 100 euros. Maybe your RV and head to the airport by bus on 5/27; hotels nearby tend to have shuttles; I've stayed here and enjoyed it: http://www.advance-hotel-zum-hahn.de/en/index.php You can check other cheap airport/airline options here: http://www.whichbudget.com
Thank you so much for your help. We will check the
Ryanair flights.
Just a note Linda, that Frankfurt Hahn is not the main Frankfurt airport (Frankfurt am Main is.) The Ryanair flight arrives at Rome-Ciampino rather than Rome-Fiumicino. For a flight that goes to the main airports check Air Berlin - it's not a direct flight though and goes via Vienna. I use www.whichbudget.com to look for budget flights within Europe. Have a safe trip!
