I am arriving in Frankfurt from Milan on November 11,2010 by LH 247 at 1055am. I want to get to Berlin by train the same day. Can I (1) get the train from the airport train station; (2) if so,which train should I aim for and will it be direct; and (3)can I book on line.
Thanks,KAZIM
1) Yes. But there are two stations at the airport. The farther out one, the Fernbahnhof, services high speed, express trains (ICE/IC). 2) That all depend on whether the plane comes in on time and how well you do at finding the Fernbahnhof. See my webpage. 3) You can book online at the German Rail (Bahn) website. Use from: Frankfurt(M) Flughafen Fernbf. There are about 2 train/hr to Berlin. It doesn't look like any are direct trains, but there are some with only one change. There are discounted, train specific, advance purchase (at least 3 day ahead) Savings fares, but I would not recommend them in this case because flights can be delayed and you have never before found your way to the Fernbahnhof. Miss you train and the train specific ticket is worthless. Anyway, at this late date the best discount prices are already sold out. If it were I, I would just buy a ticket for the next train at the counter in the Fernbahnhof when I got there. You might want to get a reservation, too. The train is not likely filled, but it's a long way to stand if it is. If you do buy a ticket online (you can print it out at home), buy a fully flexible, standard fare ticket so you can use it on any train. Reservations with online tickets are only €2,50 (2nd cl), so it is probably worth the risk. Give yourself at least an hour to get to the train. If you do miss the train, the ticket will still be good; you can get a new reservation at the counter for €4,50.
