Hi, we are flying into Frankfurt Main on Oct 4 am, just wondering if anyone has ideas about the fastest, cheapest, and easiest way to get to Venice. Ryanair out of Hahn is about E 140 plus taxes, and would have to get to Hahn. Thanks in advance, Doug
You must have been looking at fares for flights in the near future. Plugging in some arbitrary April dates, I found fares as low as .01€ (plus taxes and fees). Booking isn't open yet for October. Keep checking Ryanair's site and book ASAP to get the cheapest fares.
Since the flight leaves around 15:00, you'll have plenty of time to get to Hahn on the shuttle bus.
I checked the train timetables at www.bahn.de. There is one morning train that has a discount fare for advance booking, but I imagine you won't arrive early enough to catch it.
There are no budget airlines that fly Frankfurt Main-Venice. I think flying Ryanair is your best choice.
Your post begs the question, "if you wanted to go to Venice, why are you flying into Frankfurt?" Getting to Hahn (if your flight gets in on time), checkin and security all over again, arrival at Triviso, which is along way from Venice - what a hassle. Did you try to book straight through to Venice? If you booked to Frankfurt because it cost less, I don't think it was worth the "savings". Forget Venice; there's lots to see in Germany.
Yeah Lee, I understand, that is why I asked the question. If you must, we are flying with friends who have kindly donated airmiles and picked the destination for a 3+week trip to Italy. Not Germany. He had origially planned to buy a car in Frankfurt. His planning also gave us a non-stop from Vancouver and avoided Heathrow. So, yes, I would like to minimize the pain from Frankfurt.
Doug, I haven't checked the budget airlines, but IMO the easiest way to get from Frankfurt to Venice would be via Train (about a 12 hour trip though!). There's a station at Frankfurt Airport.
A budget flight is certainly an option, but having to travel to another airport, go through check-in, security and wait times again is not something I would do). Also, the budgets have increasingly strict baggage limits, so if you don't pack light you'll be paying a surcharge!
Since you're going to be tired after a 12-hour flight (I usually am!), you might consider an intermediate stop to "break" the journey up, perhaps Munich? You'll enjoy the journey more if you're rested (especially the great scenery in the Kufstein/Brennero section).
The journey from Munich to Venice S.L. is about 7-hours (I found one direct train leaving at 11:30 - no changes - compulsory reservations).
There are several ways you could arrange this, but that's the way I would go under the same circumstances.
Good luck!
Try Lufthansa airlines. For October 2008, I was able to get round trip fares for as low as $109
(yes Dollars not euros)from Frankfurt International to Marco Polo airport Venice. However if you request one way fares, the cheapest was $734. Buy the roundtrip, fly one way and discard the return.
