When I look up the train schedule for my trip from Frankfurt Flughafen to Prague, it gives me a drop down menu and gives me the message "Your input yielded several possible stops. Please select the desired stop." It has 13 different Frankfurt Flughafen choices and I have no idea which one we would want. I just picked Frankfurt(M)Flughafen. Is this the right one? I hate to end up missing the train because I'm at the wrong platform... Or will the train stop at each one within a few minutes of each other?
You can always get clarification from one of the attendants at the train station once you arrive.
It looks like you were using the bahn.de site. The first choice given--in this case Frankfurt(M)Flughafen--is the one the site thinks is the best choice. If you go ahead and pick it, you will get timetables showing taking either the S-Bahn to to Frankfurt Hbf or an ICE train to Frankfurt Hbf. The S-Bahn station is separate from the ICE station and the timetables will name the stations accordingly.
the deutsche bahn website also has an english version.
it's on the top tab (intern. guests)
you can also go here: http://www.airportcity-frankfurt.com/cms/default/rubrik/9/9682.htm
it's the airport's info and click on "getting to and from" depending on which airline you took, you may get a discount on the train.
frankfurt main is the "hauptbahnhof" (central train station) and it is NOT at the airport. but there should be a train running from the airport to the main trainstation. and it should be a short ride.
good luck
Okay. I've figured it out after spending a long time on bahn.de. We'll have to catch a bus from Terminal 2 (where our plane is supposed to arrive) to Terminal 1. Then it's a 10 minute walk to the platform where we catch the train to Prague. My concern now is that we won't have enough time to buy some food for a picnic lunch on the train. Our trip is going to be 5 hours to Dresden and we need to grab food before we go. I'd rather not have to eat on the train! It's too expensive.
And Kirstin, thanks for the Flughafen website. I was able to look at the airport map on the site and it helped me get a visual understanding of where we'll need to go to get on the train. Vielen Dank!
hi amy.
food for thought...
it's possible that there might be some small bakery kiosks around the train station. they are inexpensive and good quality.
some are
ditsch
lecroc bag
kamps
backfrisch
it shouldn't be more than 2 euros a sandwich.
happy travels!
kirstin
Amy, from Terminal 2 take the "SkyLine" monorail people mover to Terminal 1B. It runs frequently and is much quicker and easier than the bus shuttles. From the Terminal 1B station take the escalator down to departure's level (there is a Starbucks right around the corner of that escalator landing). From there follow signs to "long distance train station". The walk from there should be less than 10mins.
Thanks Kirstin and Andreas! I'm printing this page out and following both your advice when we get there... Andreas, is there a fee for the Skyline?
I don't know if this is the case with your train, but our train to Vienna actually departed the airport, with the next stop at the Frankfurt main station. We didn't have to change trains at the main station. Above the tracks leaving the airport, there's a couple food kiosks with rolls and sandwiches, which will get you through the trip.
Amy, no there is no fee charged for using the skyline.
