Hi Everyone,
I'm flying into Frankfurt main, but need to get to Innsbruck Austria. I checked the train schedule, but at $184.00 for a one way ticket I think I can do better. Any suggestions on cheap air, or even a good old fashioned bus? Thanks!

Mistake number 1, you are looking at fares on Rail Europe. They are expensive. You can buy the same tickets online from German Rail (www.bahn.de) for €105 ($146). If you are willing to spend a couple more hours (about 8) you can book the trip without ICEs (ICs and ECs) for €95 ($131).

There are also some promotional fares: €29 from Frankfurt to Stuttgart via ICE and €19 from Stuttgart to Innsbruck via IC. It looks like the latest you could leave FRA is about 11:20. Those tickets are non-refundable, so you would have be able to get to FRA in time to leave on the 11:20.

Finally, if you are willing to spend 9 hours getting to Innsbruck, you can use an RMV (Frankfurt metro) ticket to Kahl with a change in Frankfurt Hbf for €6,60. When you get to Kahl, you can use a Bayern-Ticket for €19 (one person) to Kufstein, Austria, then a standard ticket from Kufstein to Innsbruck for €14,60.
That's €40,20, about $66.

Ops, $66 is about what the €29 and €19 fares equal. The route using the Bayern-Ticket (€40) is about $55.
