Frankfurt Airport Question

Hello. How long would it take to get from Terminal 2 to the Long Distance Train Station. I would need to go through immigration as I'm arriving from the UK. I also need to store some luggage at the luggage storage in Terminal 1. Is all this doable in 1 hour for a flight arriving on a late Friday afternoon? Thanks in advance!

One hour is quite short on time. It usually takes about 45 min. after your flight lands to emerge into the main airport areas. That is just the average, and the flights from the UK often go quicker, so if you don't have to pick up any luggage, you could possibly emerge in less than 30 min. If it is a busy day, add on lots more time. I would use the luggage storage facility in Terminal 2, to save yourself some time, as it is right next to Arrival Gate D. Otherwise, you have to go to Terminal 1 and either use the small facility upstairs by B-2 or downstairs by B-1 and the Meeting Point. That is the larger one. Now you need to take the monorail/Sky Train to Terminal 1. This will take you about 5 min. to walk up to it, wait for it (it comes by every 3 min.) and the ride takes about 2 min. Then you would walk down to the next level, and it this point, I would walk out of the terminal, cross the street and then go upstairs to walk to the long distance train station. Alternative is the bus, though it doesn't run as frequently. I can do the monorail quicker. I know my way around the airport, so the whole thing might take me about 15 min. but since you don't know your way, make it double the time. Add on time to check your bags at the storage facility too. There are times when you might have to wait quite a while there, as they wrap someones suitcase in plastic, or a large group is in front of you. Fridays are always busy and you are getting into summer season. If it is the last day of school in Hessen, the airport will be swamped.

If you are flying into Frankfurt from the US, you can't count on arriving on time (I've been an hour late at least twice out of five times). There are trains out of the Fernbahnhof in all directions often (at least hourly), so you won't have to wait long, but due to the uncertainty of arrival time, this is not the time to book non-refundable, advance purchase tickets. If you want a reserved seat, you should be OK booking when you get to the Fernbahnhof. If you have a lot of luggage, there are costless carts around the airport (wherever they were left by the last user). You can take them up the escalators (or elevators) to the Skyline, but you can't take them on the tram. Leave them at the station. There will usually be empty ones at the other end, left by people going the other way.

Marc says he is coming in from the UK. That doesn't mean the flight will be on time or late either, you can't tell that with any flight, from anywhere in the world. It is all guesswork, though you can look on the arrival boards for your airport and check your flight to see if it is often early, late or on time. It is actually very common for flights from N. America to be early due to the tail winds. If they are late, then it is usually bad weather from the originating airport, or a flight delay that means your plane isn't ready when it is suppose to be ready, or some technical problems. All of my flights from the US have been early, one was an hour early, which was nice.
