France-Swiss Train travel

I will be traveling to Murren from Avignon, France. Rick Steves' book suggested the Global or the pass. However, the pass is no longer available for the France-Switzerland combination. We are planning to stay in Murren (travel through Interlaken) and will use the various cable cars in the area (staying 4 days). We would like to ride the Golden Pass journey from Lausanne to Interlaken. What pass would be the best? The Global Pass is too much since we are only traveling in France and Switzerland. If I get the Eurail France-Swiss pass, will it include the Golden Pass route and how about the various cable cars around Murren and the Berner Oberland? The France-Swiss pass is good for national trains. Should we pay for the Avignon to Lausanne segment on our own and then just get a Swiss Pass? We only need train transport from the Avignon to Lausanne prior to the Switzerland portion of our trip. We fly from Zurich after four days in the Berner Oberland. Thank you.

Margie, a Swiss Pass works better in Switzerland than a 2- country pass. If you buy a ticket from Avignon to Lausanne, the pass can be used to cover the portion of travel in Switzerland, so you just pay for the French portion.

Margie, are you traveling all the way to Mürren in one day? Then heading to Zurich after four days in Mürren? I think what you want is a Swiss Card for $216. That will fully cover your 2 days of travel to and fron Mürren, and give you 50% off all travel and lifts while you are in the Berner Oberland, including 50% off the Jungfrau trip. It is perfect for trips like yours, where you travel toone spot and stay there, riding likes. With a Swiss Pass, which costs more than the Card, you are paying for more than you get, because it is designed to cover train and boat travel from place to place at 100% ( which you will only use for 2 days), but it still only covers lifts at 50%, and the Jungfrau at 25%.
