Would it be better to buy tickets ahead of time or wait until the time we need to depart ?
With friends arrival at 9 am on a Sunday at CDG, arrival time, getting their luggage, taxi to train station... I am hesitate to guess at what time we will be at the train station. And is Paris Nord the correct station ? or is it Gare Saint Lazare... I am finding different suggestions ... can anyone help with this ?
thank you
There are trains from Paris CDG airport to Bayeux. If you have a few months before your trip. you can buy discounted “Prems” train tickets at www.SNCF-connect.com and build in a time buffer in case your friends’ flight is delayed. There is a train at 12:16pm that likely would work, The Prems tickets are now changeable within certain timeframes. www.Seat61.com has more information on train tickets in France.
There are no direct trains from CDG to Bayeux. You have to go into Paris and the correct station is Gare St. Lazare. That is not to say that you cannot take a train from CDG to Bayeux -- you can but the trip will have at least two changes and take over five hours and typically cost more than the cost of a taxi to St. Lazare and the cost of the train ticket. Plus, there are more frequent trains from Paris.
Some trains from Paris CDG to Bayeux stop at the Massy TGV station ten miles south of Paris and not at Gare St. Lazare or any other stations in the city. Some trains travel from CDG to Le Mans for connections.
Technically speaking it is indeed possible to go from CDG to Bayeux without having to change stations in Paris. But that is going to be long and complicated. Going via Le Mans for example is quite the detour.
Better option: Have a taxi take you to st. Lazare, or take the RER, and then just buy a ticket there for the next train to Bayeux. These are commuter trains basically. No need to fret about them months in advance. No need to worry about when exactly you will arrive at the station.
