France rail pass or point to point tickets

We are a family of 4 traveling to France in June. We will fly into Paris, travel to Dijon (2 nights) to pick up our relative studying there this past school year. Then the 5 of us will travel to Lyon (2 nights), on to Chamonix (with a afternoon stop in Annecy?)(2 nights), then back to Paris (4 nights) via Dijon to pick up excess luggage stored there. My question: Is it better to purchase the rail pass or to just buy point to point tickets as we go? My initial research indicated that we could save a little with the pass, but by the time we pay for required reserved seating, it ends up being about the same. We will have 3 adults and 2 youth (under 25).
