France, parking tickets

If you get a ticket in France, which is supposed to be paid within 45 days or it doubles, does the rental car company get charged, and if it does, does it automatically bill your credit card? Or, is paying the ticket just left up to the traveler?

Call your rental car company and ask. H#@%tz has a horible habit of adding a surcharge onto your credit card to process this fine. Each rental agency handles this differently, and some will even "protest" the ticket for you.
