France/Italy Rail Pass/Eurostar/Artesia Night Train

Me and the wife purchased a France-Italy Flexipass from Rail Euorpe for 5 days. Shipping was free it gaves us a discount on the Eurostar Chunnel train and a huge discount on the Artesia night train from Paris to Rome, then on to Formia via train as well and we still had 4 days left on our pass, We traveled back to Rome for a day of sight seeing and back then another day trip to Pompei, then a trip back to Rome for our flight home it also covered the Leanardo Express from Rome to Airport. We copied all the train times before we left the states, and on our travels no tickets or reservations to buy every train was on time no hassels etc. It may be just a bit higher but made it SO EASY

Joe and Tina....Cost of 1st class pass for the two of you (saverpasses) for 5 days, $682. Artesia supplement thru RailEurope for 1st class passholders, $184 for 2 (T3 beds). Cost of Eurostar supplement, Paris-London return, $324 (2nd class). Total, according to RailEurope's website, $1190 for the two of you, assuming you didn't need reservations on the fast trains on the other legs of your Italian trip, which cost more. Booking point-to-point with national rail sites over the Internet for 2, I get first class T3 for $238 to Rome. To Formia, a day trip to Rome, day trip to Pompeii, back to Rome, then the Leonardo Express to the airport cost me about another $365, 1st class. Return trip to London on the Eurostar, $215 for 2. Total....$841, all in. That's a $350 difference, or almost 30 per cent. All that would've taken me half an hour to book over the internet. That's enough for another couple of days in Europe, or a romantic night in a castle, or a dinner cruise on the Seine....or.....

Ok here is our actual cost we spent 10 Minutes on the phone told em what we wanted and the tickets arrived 2 days later! No Shipping Costs
France/Italy Flexipass pass (5 days in 2 months) $658 for 2 First class.
London to Paris Second Class Eurostar $108 Each
Artesia Night train First class double sleeper (2 People only) $154 for 2 which includes continental breakfast
Total cost $1028.00
Lots of Trenitalia train tickets we were taking from Formia, Pompei were only available in Italy. We wanted to have it all paid for with no hassles. Only regret most trains in Italy only have second class. We took all regional trains and did not spend the extra $10.00 per person just to make a resvervation on the ICPLUS trains first class, Most 2nd class regional trains were just fine and just as fast if not faster YES cost was just a little higher but everthing was paid for when we arrived. No standing in lines. we just got on the trains as needed.

So I guess the key may be to phone RailEurope rather than use their website, since they seem to charge a lot more for their internet purchases. Perhaps it also had to do with the time of year travelled...I based my costs on what they had available for this summer.
