Found (1/17/19) and booked great fare SFO to Munich early fall

We found and immediately booked a round trip flight from SFO to MUC today for $395 per person round trip. Hoping that if anyone else is going to Germany this fall from the Bay Area you can take a look at this fleeting fare. Our dates are September 16-October 8.

EDIT: this is with DELTA connecting in Amsterdam going over and Dallas coming back with decent connection times.

Is this fare without checked bags and advance seat selection? Regardless, this is an excellent fare!

This year, low fares seem to be more available if they are purchased well before the trip (i.e. 7-9 months).

We booked a sub-$500 Boston-Paris fare in September 2018 for April - May 2019 travel (including checked bags and advance seat selection). The economy fare was in the low $300s. I used to purchase air tickets four to six months before the trip, but this year I started looking eight months in advance.

It is but we don’t check a bag and aren’t too concerned about sitting together or not.

EDIT: We also booked 4 fares today with seat assignments for a different trip in July so we were pretty happy to get this no frills fare.

Great work!! We got SFO>CDG with a return through MUC for about the same price in April (but we DO check bags, so there's an additional $120 on the Lufthansa return -- bags free on the United flight over because I have an Explorer card.) Same process -- saw it, bought it.

Hi Mona,
On 1/15 I booked a trip to Munich from Atlanta direct and return from Vienna through CDG back to Atlanta for $822 Nov. 28 - Dec. 9. Yes, it’s Thanksgiving day, but my flight leaves late in the day and my family will take me to the airport.
Delta. I’m very pleased as I had been tracking fares since the summer and prices were running in the $1,500 range.

Great find! How did you find this fare? Do you get email alerts?

We hadn’t set up any alerts because we were willing to travel to one of about 7 airports in Germany. We’ve been doing a matrix.itasoftware.com search off and on for months and every day since Christmas. Yesterday when I did a month long search instead of specific calendar dates (+/-) I saw the fare and booked it ASAP. Today the fare is kind of there but our specific routing is $800 per person rt. We also booked the granddaughters trip yesterday because the fares we’d been tracking were about 1/3 less that what we’d been seeing for a month, $612 instead of $900+.

Does Delta fly SFO>>AMS or is this a Delta codeshare of a KLM flight? If it's an 8xxx or 9xxx Delta flight number it's actually KLM. Then MUC>>DFW is only flown by American. So you must have used a third party site like Expedia to paste together airlines from different alliances. Doesn't really matter, though.

It will be a KLM flight going over and Delta coming back. We booked on the Delta site.

I think you meant Detroit (DTW) then, not Dallas (DFW). I don't think Delta.com would book an American flight.

Omg you are correct Tom. We’ve never flown through Detroit. That will be an new experience.

Love these posts where people actually post the routing and fare they got. Even though we are bound for Greece this year and not Germany. Thanks Mona!

Mona, what a great price! Thanks for the tips.

Edit to add: I checked that site, and it doesn't help us much. We can save $500 by flying SAS, with 2 or 3 stops on the way to Paris, and an overnight stay in Stockholm on the way back.
