Before anyone freaks out, please read the article. I've read other coverage of this, as well. There is no consequence such as refusal of boarding or changing of seats. All weights are confidential and not displayed for the passenger, the other passengers, or the service agent. It's voluntary. They are doing this for safely reasons to get an accurate weight of the plane and it's contents. My son worked as a ramp agent for SWA for a decade, and overall weight and distribution were extremely crucial.
