Food on the French train

I'm going to do a fast 24 hour trip on the train from Paris to Normandy, travelling one late afternoon and returning the next evening. I don't normally like to plan to the hour, but I have to maximize my time on this short jaunt. Is the food for purchase on the train pretty decent, or is it similar to our amtrak with a sandwich in a bag? Or if I purchase a dish or sandwich at a deli in Paris, and then in Bayeux, to go, is it acceptable eating it on the train? I will be in 2nd class. Thanks for your answers!

Definately purchase food before train,, and eating your "own" food on the train is perfectly acceptable . Heck you can bring on a beer or wine too, and have a civilized meal!
Second class is comfortable and clean,, no need for first class.

What Pat says. Always, if you can, get it before.

Yes, food on board trains in France is wildly overpriced and nobody will mind you eating your own food on-board, as long as you don't start throwing beer cans at people.
