Food on Icelandair Airline

I recently traveled (July 4, 2014) from Seattle to Iceland on my way to Paris. I was surprised that I had to pay for a meal on such a long flight. On top of that, it was expensive and not very good. Spread the word, take food with you on this flight.

I fly to Europe every summer and have researched Icelandair Airlines due to its low costs. However, it appears that they have a reputation for charging for things that any other airline I have flown to Europe provides for free.
I also found out that they fly a 757 aircraft which has only one isle - a deal killer for me on that long of a flight.

That 757 is not fun to fly on. At least we had movies to watch. I can`t imagine that the flight attendants are too enamored with the plane as well.

There was a long thread about their meal provision, or lack thereof, some months ago. Several people commented that the low cost of the flight and experience of Iceland compensated for the purchassing of food.

I'm surprised that people are surprised on the flight. Don't they spell it out somewhere in the T&Cs liek Easyjet and Ryanair do?

It is on the website that meals need to be purchased. I just packed some food with me, sandwiches and snacks. No problems. I found the seats roomy and comfy and would fly with Iceland Air again without a 2nd thought. Enjoyed the entertainment system as well as being on a plane that wasn't such a giant jet, that takes forever to get people loaded and unloaded. It all goes faster. Not understanding how this could possibly be a deal breaker?

I also liked the quick 7+ hours Trans-Atlantic flight. Even though I was flying to Cal. and needed to land in Iceland, then in Seattle, the trip was quick, I was glad to get off and stretch my legs and it was certainly the most scenic flight I have ever been on. Returning was even faster. The super short layover of 40 min. in Iceland was easy.

I have flown Icelandair a number of times over the past three years. To combat the limited food choices, I have brought my own food or grabbed something before take-off. Upon arrival at Keflavik, I grab something to eat at one of the airport restaurants before continuing on to mainland Europe. All in all, the food inconvenience is outweighed by the low fares charged.
