We're meeting up with friends in Helsinki at the end of our Spain trip this October. What is the best route to get from Helsinki to Washington DC (Reagan)? We'll be using British Airways Avios (or ONe World partners). Thanks!
Pamela, If you are flying to DC, I think you will find more flight options flying into Washington Dulles (IAD). National (DCA - Reagan) has short runways and thus no larger planes can land there. You can get there of course, but it will require a connection in another east coast city. BA has 3 flights a day from LHR to IAD, so flying from Helsinki via London may be an option. I'd suggest that you use a search engine like Kayak.com to see what options are available. If you want to search for flights to all the DC airports, use the code "WAS" in your search. It will get you DCA, IAD, and BWI.
Finnair comes to mind since they're a Oneworld member, but you would need to fly into Dulles. Laura's right about getting to DCA – you would need to connect through Toronto, JFK, or someplace else using a partner or codeshare carrier. If that's an option for you, you may want to take a look at SAS or Icelandair, although SAS will probably fly directly to Dulles as well. I don't believe either is Oneworld, however.
Thanks, I"ll check out these routes. We may do JFK route and connect from there.
