Does anyone know if European airports impose the same liquid carry-on restrictions as in the US? I will be flying from home from Paris non-stop on Air France and was hoping to bring a couple bottles of wine home from the from the Provance area. I just don't know if it will be possible to take those through security and onto the airplane. Thanks.
Yes, they do. Unfortunately you'd have to mail back your bottles...
I wonder if the US' ridiculous Terror Threat Level will ever be lower than Orange. I only say ridiculous because no civilian in the US takes it seriously - at least nobody I know of.
A solution for you is that many wineries now offer mailing for their wine.
Jarrod, the threat level will not be lowered during this next year. I would even bet that it will be raised at some point close to the November election. For political reasons.
The most obvious and economical solution would be to pack them well in your checked luggage.
Gordon, your best bet might be to pack them securely in your checked baggage. I have transported wine in my checked bag with no problem in the past. Since your flight is nonstop it will only be loaded and unloaded once. Just make sure they are well-padded by clothing, etc., and they should be fine.
I have packed wine very carefully in a hard shell suitcase.
It didn't work, some of my wife's best lingerie was ruined.
Even worse airlines and most insurance companies don't pay out for damage caused by broken bottles.
You can always get a good range of wine in the duty free shops airside, it's that or mail it from Provance.
Thanks everyone for the great advice. I guess I will have to enjoy the smaller regional Cotes du Rhone and Chateauneuf-de-pape while in Provence since I am traveling with just carry-on (Rick's famous backpack and a messenger bag). I never thought of the duty free store and that will work since I am flying non-stop. Merci and Bon Voyage to all!
