Flying to Torino (Turin) Italy -- Layover advice, etc., needed

Looking to fly into Torino, but will need to make a connection at one of the following airports: Madrid, Rome or Frankfurt. Which of these should I avoid? It seems like Madrid is a bit of a mess, with us having to transfer between terminals via bus. Also, all the flights I am looking at have a layover of 2 hrs 20 minutes +/-...is this enough time to clear passport control if necessary (particularly concerned about this on the flight into Europe)?

Also: Air One and Air Dolomiti...what is your opinion of these carriers?

It may depend on whether or not you are changing airlines for the connection. On our last trip, we had a very good experience flying into Florence via Frankfurt on Lufthansa. We walked from the international terminal to the domestic terminal area for our connection. No customs. Our bags were checked straight through to Florence. We did have two places that checked our tickets and passports on the way but it was very easy.

We are trying to fly US Airways and use up some frequent flyer miles. The flight over is US Air, then we would transfer to Lufthansa, Iberia, Alitalia, Air One or Air Dolomiti for the flight into Turin.
