Flying SAS to Amsterdam--luggage, etc.

We've never flown this airline before. Is there anything we need to be aware of beforehand? (Please don't post scarey stuff.)

We already plan to take snacks and get a bottle of water each (after Security). We had planned to take one piece of luggage each (like the 21" roll-on), plus we each have an Avanti flight bag. In reading the 'rules and regs' for SAS, however, it seems we cannot take that much onboard. Now we're thinking we'll take one larger suitcase (and check it) and the flight bags. The only layover is in Copenhagen, so with any luck, the checked bag would make it on to Amsterdam.
All input welcome, and thanks in advance.

SAS is considered one of the top airlines in the world (also one of the most expensive). Like most European national airlines they will feed you very well; including free wine with dinner. Don't feel that you have to bring snacks, they won't "starve" you like US airlines do:)

SAS is a fine airline transatlantic, and they operate quite new Airbus A340. On intra-europe flights, they have gone the way of low-cost airlines, which means that all food and drinks are for sale (even water), so buy a bottle at the airport for the intra Europe flight. On the transatlantic segment, food is OK (and free) but they now let you pay for drinks outside meals. One drink with your meal is still free.

Luggage restriction is the same as for all carriers, ie. the piece system for transatlantic flights, and the weight system (max. 20 kg) for intra Europe flights. Note that the piece system also applies for intra Europe connections when they are a part of a transatlantic trip.

Hand luggage is max 8 kg as with Lufthansa and several other European carriers but hand luggage is rarely weighed, unless it looks suspiciously heavy.

Copenhagen is a very nice airport, but quite expensive. If your connection is very tight, they are known to loose bags. (They get on the next flight)
