We will be flying out of Rome back to U.S. It is my understanding that there are choices of airports to fly in-n-out of (similiar to JFK, EWR, etc). If this is the case; which is the better airport to fly out of. We will be flying home July 29, 2010.

If you're using a direct flight from Rome to the U.S., I suspect the only flights available will be from Roma / FCO. Ciampino tends to be used more for flights within Europe, however it's possible that you may be able to find a flight departing from CIA to Frankfurt, and then transfer to another flight to the U.S.
I try to avoid multiple flights if possible, however the last few years that seems to have been unavoidable (and will be the same this year).

If you have not looked yet, you will notice many flights leave from FCO very early, meaning you need to arrange a cab or other transport at a good expense. Consider a flight leaving at 10 AM or later instead. Allows you time to get to the airport by public transportation.
