I've read (and perhaps it's changed) that the security is just before the departure gates. And that security for flights to the US are particularly stringent. We will be returning to the US on a flight from CDG leaving at 11:30 am.
Anyone flown out of CDG recently? Returning to the US? Can you tell me how much time to allow for checkin and security?
The stringent measures are primarily for US carriers because TSA requires an additional security check for all US airlines flying into the US. If you fly Air France, it is not as bad. But for the US, I would allow three hours regardless of airline.
We will be flying Air France, but it code shared with Delta. Does that make a difference?
It's the operating carrier that counts.
Thanks so much. We'll be sure to allow 3 hours.....
last time we flew back from Frankfurt on Lufthansa, when we checked in, the Lufthansa agent "apologised" but advised us that we would have to go through an additional security at the gate "USA requirement". The gate we flew out of was enclosed (ie a sterile area) and we did have to go to another security to get into that gate. part of the agent's comment was that we should allow anough time to go through this extra security check. Note this was a Lufthansa flight- no code share or anything
As far as I know, the carrier doesn't matter. Flights going to the US require an extra security check per TSA requirements whether it's a US or a European carrier.
