Traveling on KLM

Hello!

My family and I are traveling back from Prague in April, and are fying KLM economy from AMS to JFK (on a 787). I've seen mostly subpar experiences with KLM and was curious to get some of this group's thoughts.

Thanks!

Definitely bring some food for your teens, and something you can squash into a pillow.
I wrote on the forum about my experience on KLM Economy this past September.
It was less than great.
Efficient and very friendly staff though.

We've flown KLM a number of times and have always preferred flying into Schophol Airport to others. But we see where Amsterdam is having staffing issues at the airport.

We flew into AMS a year ago on KLM out of Atlanta. It was perhaps the the worst flight we've ever experienced--from bad food to zero personal service. The flight crew stayed back in the kitchen to avoid any personal contact with the passengers.

Schiphol Airport was no problem to us coming and going.

Our return flight was Delta--AMS to ATL. The Delta flight attendants were simply fantastic--from the food and drink to the personal attention. They about floated us out of the plane with so many drinks.

I don't know what KLM is like this year. Since KLM and Delta are "partner airlines" you may fly one airline coming and the other going.

I flew KLM a few weeks ago BER-AMS-ATL. It was okay, not terrible, not great. We flew Delta outbound. For both in and outbound we were in the exit row at the bulkhead. The KLM seats were definitely narrower than the Delta seats.
AMS wasn't terrible, though. We didn't have to wait at all to get through passport control.

I am with the poster above. Bring your own food and water bottle to fill up in the airport. Bring your own pillow and blanket or something else you can use as such. Then you don't need anything from the airline except to get you from here to there safely. Not ideal. But with low expectations you are less likely to be disappointed. I don't think that any airline is reliably great.

Any concern with KLM from Florence to AMS city hopper? I will have only 1 hr layover to get Denver flight to Seattle

One hour layover in AMS after a flight from Florence is probably not enough time.
I’ve flown out of Florence many times and had a lot of late departures from there.
AMS is huge, always seems to be under construction, and long walks between gates.
Can you book a different flight?
If not, go directly to the next gate.
No stopping for bathrooms or food.
You might just make it.

KLM will rebook your onward flight if you miss the second flight due to delays; but if you had to stay overnight in Amsterdam, they don’t book you a hotel, I believe, you have to find your own and claim it back.
Other airlines will book you a place to stay.
