Can anyone comment on the idea of flying into Brussels and then making our way to Amsterdam via train? What should we expect to pay for that train ticket?
The original thought was to fly into AMS, make our way through Brussels, then over to Germany, and eventually Poland. But the Brussels tickets are coming in at $950, vs $1100 into AMS, both flying open jaw out of Berlin later. Thoughts?
The domestic ticket windows at any Belgian train station will sell a ticket into Holland and Luxembourg.
Here is the train fare information. Its €64 per person one way, 2nd class, but if you purchase early there are lower rates. €25 if you book 30 days in advance. They have internet booking (ticketless I believe), so you can book before you leave.

Between Brussels and Amsterdam, Thalys isn't that much faster than a regular ICE train. You'll need to take a local train from the airport to one of the Brussels train stations (the cost is something like 5 euro) then, catch a train to Amsterdam. I forget the exact price, much it's much less than the $150 difference between flights that you posted.

On Dec. 15 the new high-speed tracks between Brussels and Amsterdam opened, so the Thalys is now significantly faster than the IC trains (almost an hour). The IC trains still use the old tracks.
