Flying into and out of Frankfurt Germany

My kids and I will be flying to Germany next summer and I've been searching for cheap flights. I finally found a super saver flight for $620 not including taxes and fees. Is this as cheap as I'm going to find? It's on American Airlines. I've looked at a bunch of on-line travel sites and American Airlines own website has been the cheapest I've found.

Try the consolidators (early next yr)like cheaptickets, orbitz, and expedia then decide. $620 plus the surcharges and taxes will still be quite expensive for each passenger. Realize it takes alot of work and time to get great airfares. At least you are going into an airport that generally has lower fares when compared to surounding airports. However you might also try Dusseldorf airport.

Thanks for replying. I was hoping to fly into the Frankfurt area. If I could find a flight to Hahn airport I would do that, but can't seem to get a direct flight and don't really want to spend extra for a connecting flight. I was stationed at Hahn when it was a U.S.A.F. base and will be in that general area 80% of the time we're there.

That might be pretty darn close to as good as you will get for the summer. You might get cheaper closer to the date but no guarantee of connections or getting the seats you want, especially together. Our flight to Germany in December only has 4 seats left and they are not together. I wasn't sure if I should have bought 8 months early, but I am glad I did!

Hi Kathleen,
It's really difficult to say when's the right time to buy but I'd check to see how much the taxes and fees are--it might bump up the price of the ticket considerably. Also, consider that some airlines are lowering the fuel surcharge--so there is a chance fares might be lower for summer in a month or so. It's just hard to say--good luck--finding a great airfare is a challenge these days!

I was reading a travel writer's article. He suggests that you sign-up with travel website that notify you when price changes. Booking the tickets now seems way too early.....I could be wrong. With oil prices falling and bad economy for everyone, maybe there will be deals to have next year.

Hi Kathleen, I have found that taxes and extra charges often add more than the cost of the ticket - the cheaper the ticket the greater the taxes. So check those taxes and extra charges before deciding. I bought my tickets 8 months in advance and haven't found cheaper tickets - but sometimes the same price over the past eight months. I heard flying into Dusseldorf was the cheapest and am in fact flying out of that city. Expedia let me book in and out of different cities - a bonus for me. Good luck

Anthony, we will be leaving sometime in June provided I get the time off from work. We haven't started the sign up for leave at work yet. I probably have a month or two before I know for sure. I'm planning on being gone for 21-28 days, though, depending on the sign up thing again.

We'll be flying out of either Lousiville or Cincinatti which seem to be cheaper than Lexington, which is actually the closest airport to me. I added up the taxes and maximum fees from AA's site and the total will be a little over $800. Still alot cheaper than what I had been seeing anywhere else.

Hessen has its summer vacation from 13 July to 21 Aug. and flights anywhere close to those dates will increase in price enormously if you are flying into or out of Frankfurt. If you fly into or out of an airport in Germany where they are NOT on vacation, it will be cheaper. This is valid also during spring, fall, and Christmas vacation time periods. All of the states stagger their vacations so everyone is not on the autobahn at the same time.

Personally, I like that Delta non-stop from Cinci to Frankfurt.

Jo, 8 1/2 hours non-stop does sound better than 20 hours, a lot of it sitting in the Chicago airport. But it's also over $1300.

I would get those tickets ASAP...all of my student ticket sites, or other cheap air sites are listing 1000+ after surcharges and such.

May on through October seems to be HIGH PRICE, no matter what...

I got tickets flying from MSP to Frankfurt for 620 $ round trip, AFTER TAXES/SURCHARGES....granted I got them from STATravel.com, as I am a student...this was almost 5 months ago, haha.

Depends on how much surcharges and taxes are if that price is even ok...when are you traveling, from where?
