flying international newbie. When do I go through immigration

Hi! I am flying to Stockholm from Atlanta. I have a layover in Amsterdam. When do I go through immigration? Does my luggage go straight through to Stockholm or do I need to pick it up in Amsterdam and go through immigration and security?

Immigration will be in Amsterdam. Checked luggage will go straight through from Atlanta to Stockholm. At the airport in Amsterdam you may have to go through a security screening before you reach your gate.

You go through immigration in Amsterdam. Your luggage goes straight to Stockholm.

However, you will go through security again to reach your domestic flight to Stockholm. Customs is in Stockholm as you bag is checked through to the end.

Don't worry about it, once you get off the plane you can't go anywhere in the airport except where you are suppose to be going. Just follow the herd and follow the signs! It really is difficult to mess up.

If you're lucky. On my recent Boston -- Paris flight via Iceland, I went through immigration in Iceland, and my luggage apparently liked Iceland so much it stayed there overnight. I was also somewhat surprised that we didn't have to go through security in Iceland either going or coming home.
