Flying in July, Search for Tickets Now?

My wife, son and I are going to France in July. Is there a strategy anyone can recommend to search for good deals on plane fare? Or is it too early to find deals for summer flights? Thank you very much.

The reverse may be true. There may not be an good deals for peak summer travel. I could getting a feel now for the prices by using the various search engines - Orbitz, Kayak, Bing, etc. Farecompare.com is useful for showing historical prices for any route but not a forecast for this year. Most reports are that fares will be high this summer for a host of reasons that are very unpredictable. Good luck.

Hey Ken - I grew up on Rt 1A. At Appleton Farms on the Hamilton / Ipswich border. But that is neither here nor there - look now and look every day. Look at Iceland Air - with a stop in Iceland you'll save a few hundred bucks. If you get a fare under $1000 grab it. Be as flexible as you can be when searching for flights - rumor is that it is cheaper to fly on a Tuesday. People say Kayak.com is good. I only fly Continental (because I live outside of Newark) so I only use their search engine. Have fun! Good luck!

Iceland air has a few fares/dates that are right at $1000 RT Boston-Paris. We have taken them three times and can vouch for them being scrupulously on time and as comfortable as any typical seat on any airline. Iceland is interesting if you want to take some time to see it, and the stopover is brief if you don't. Also look at Kayak.com The next cheapest I see right now is Aer Lingus for about $1180 No, there are no secrets to cheaper fares except to buy really early and take the first below-normal fare you see. You are already too late to meet the "really early" standard. We bought our tickets and got great prices for June/July back in October. At this point, I would agree that any fare at or below $1000 is as good as you can reasonably expect. Take it when you see it, as the consequences of waiting too long could cost you on lodging reservations more than it could possibly save you in airfare.

Thanks, everyone. By chance, we are leaving on a Tuesday. On top of tickets getting so be so expensive, it's must gotten to be so darned fun to fly these days.

Icelandic Air had the cheapest prices from Seattle to Europe but then I noticed that they use a 757 Boeing airplane. It only has one isle (I think) and for a 9 1/2 hour flight that is not sufficient for all those folks needing to use that one isle.
It starts with attendants selling you something, bringing you drinks, picking up garbage, bringing you food, drinks, picking up garbage all of which pretty much block that one isle. Then there are all those folks needing to go to the bathroom and some getting exercise. I found that way too crowded for me on just a 5 1/2 hour flight from Seattle to Hawaii. If the low price is really important I would take them as I have never heard a bad word about them here.

Check Air France, go into their web page and sign up for e mail travel fare alerts. I am on theirs, United, delta and AA. Check daily & be ready to book as a good fare will pop up one day and be gone the next.
