Just wondering if I could get some opinions on my flight options on my first trip to France and Italy. My friend and I would like to fly from Paris to Rome Oct 22 morning and return the morning of the 29th and have found three choices - Ryanair, EasyJet and Vueling. The Ryanair seems best (181 Euro with luggage)except that it flys out of Beauvais at 9:30AM and looking at a shuttle service I figure 52Euros for both of us each way meaning a cost of 285 Euros. This compares to EasyJet at 260 flying out of Orly at 7:00 and Vueling at 246 Euro flying out of Charles De Gaulle at 11:15. Is there cheaper/public transportation out to Beauvais and does the drive out provide a nice view of the French countryside or should I opt for EasyJet or Vueling as their airports are a little closer?
Personally I would choose the Vueling flight. Not only will it be cheaper - (its roughly the same cost to use the RER to CDG) - but it is a far more civilised hour. For either of the others you would have to get up ridiculously early. For Beauvais you would have to catch a bus around 0600 - and you will not see much of the country-side in the dark. You could of course go to Rome on Vueling, but come back on Ryanair - it means getting up early in Rome, but the morning flight gets in during daylight and you might see something of the countryside
The shuttle bus from Porte Maillot to Beauvais costs €13. See the details here: www.aeroportbeauvais.com/bus.php?lang=eng.
If having more time to explore on your first day in Rome is more important than losing a bit of sleep, pick easyJet. Otherwise pick Vueling.
One more thought. Have you considered taking the direct night train? It would save you the cost of a night in a hotel. For a detailed description of night train service between Paris and Italy, including photos, go here: www.seat61.com/Italy.htm. Book tickets at www.voyages-sncf.com and have the tickets sent to an address in Paris (like your hotel).
