I am trying to organize how i will be getting from destination point A to point B. Because i am going to numerous countries, ive decided its best to get a Eurail Global Pass. Although, im aware that it doesnt cover Great Britain. Which is where Eurostar comes in. One of my destinations is from Edinburgh to London. However on the eurostar map, it doesnt indicate that it goes anywhere in scotland. Which made me think i would have to fly or bus there. When i look at the map in one of Ricks books i have, it shows the black lines as being major rail lines. And shows a line going to Edinburgh. So is this some other railine? or?? Im confused on all of this.
Hi Brittany,
You can definitely go from London to Edinburgh by train, but it won't be on the Eurostar. In the U.K. Eurostar is the name of the train service that runs from London to Paris or Brussels.
Try this site for train journeys in the U.K.
Kent : yes many times ... for about two weeks now ive been looking at both the eurostar and eurorail websites.
The railpasses tab above only searches about the eurorail line.
Eurail is a marketing consortium owned by the national rail companies of several countries on the continent. There are no actual Eurail lines.
Day trains between London and Edinburgh are operated by National Express East Coast (www.nationlexpresseastcoast.com). Caledonian Sleeper trains are operated by ScotRail. See here: http://tinyurl.com/g9ehd.
Brittany -
You will be even happier to know that the GNER line that you will need to take leaves from King's Cross station - which is literally next door to St. Pancras station where the Eurostar arrives (as of 14 November).
This is another rail line and you will need to purchase a ticket. It is however one of my favorite train trips in the UK. The train follows along the coastline the further north you get. Beautiful. It is a bit of a long journey - as I recall about 4 hours or so.
You can also check Britrail for information - www.britrail.com
FYI, the GNER line between London and Edinburgh is now operated by National Express East Coast. (See my previous post.)
