What are the best ways to go one way from Venice to Nice on a budget (or vice versa - haven't decided the direction of my trip yet). An overnight train would be a possibility but I'm uncomfortable with the overnight train idea. I found that ItaliaAir offers a direct flight Venice to Nice during some of the year, but apparently not in early August. I'd but ok with other potential options, like a budget flight from Nice to Milan (couldn't find one) and train from there to Venice...any other suggestions on airlines that might travel this route?
Amy, Alpi Eagles serve Venice to Nice vv. (www.alpieagles.com). They seem to only offer the city names in Italian regardless of what language you chose. Nizza is Nice, Venezia is Venice...
Thanks, Andreas! If anyone else is looking though, it doesn't look like this airline is a quick way to go between the two cities. From Nice to Venice, you go through Naples, and the flight leaves Nice at noon and arrives in Venice at 10:55pm. The flight from Venice to Nice also goes through Naples, leaving Venice at 7:05am and arriving in Nice at 11:15am. Still appreciate the information though!
Amy, all I did was find out what airline serves the requested leg. Personally, if I didn't want to rent a car I'd take the train as it is a very scenic ride (if you book a right-hand side window seat).
Ok, having taken a much closer look into the schedules I did find Alitalia air services between Milan and Nice, which would shorten the length of train ride... The question is including all the transfers, check-in times etc would it still be shorter than a plain train ride? And would it be cheaper? That I doubt... Night trains take 10 1/2 hrs, day trains only 8 hrs for the entire journey.
Looks like Brussels Airlines is the best bet for Nice to Vienna (or vice versa) - routes through Brussels, but has pretty good rates - far cheaper than overnight train and about 20 less hours . . .
I found them through the air links elsewhere on this website.
