Florence to Madrid? train or fly?

If we take the train from Florence to Madrid, we would stop in Paris.
But....is flying cheaper/quicker?

Stacey, I see 3 ferries to Barcelona from Italy. One leaves from Civitavecchia (Rome), one leaves from Genoa (north of the Cinque Terre) and the third leaves from Livorno (just south of Pisa). The ferry from Livorno leaves at just before midnight. The deck fare for two is 102Euro. For an inside sleeper, it's 253Euro. For further information, take a look at www.ferryticket.gr.

Stacey, there are 3 trains a day leaving Florence for Madrid. One does go via Paris. The other two don't. However, the fastest of the 3 train runs is 27.5hrs. The run via Paris is 36.0hrs if you can believe it.

I would certainly suggest exploring a flight to Madrid. From what I see on www.whichbudget.com, only Meridiana flys to Madrid from Florence. I see a promotional fare of 102Euro.

If you take a train to Milan, both Vueling and EasyJet fly to Madrid. They may have better fares but if you can get the promotional fare from Florence, it's probably not worth the expense and time to train to Milan to save a few bucks.

Wow - that is a long ride!
We actually want to get to Madrid AND Barcelona. I just saw there is a ferry from Italy to Barcelona, so maybe we will go that route.

Thanks!!
