Florence to Colmar...travel tips

My daughter and I will be going from Florence to Colmar, Paris, than Rome and back to Florence. Any suggestions on mode of transportation. Would it be worth it to get a eurail pass? Any interesting stops along our route? Has anyone visited the Moet and Chandon vinyard?

Do you absolutely have to travel to those places in that order? Maybe you do. That's alot of time sitting on a train, or getting to/from the airport...

Can you make any other suggestions. Colmar sounds lovely and quaint and we can't pass up Paris. My daughter will be finishing up a semester in Florence and i am meeting her at the end of it.

EDIT: Not wearing the correct glasses; therefore, didn't see that you MUST start in Florence, but I covered that anyway...Just keep reading ;-)

For instance, you could fly into Paris, daytrip &/or stay overnight in Reims (Moet and Chandon), then train to Colmar (LOVE Colmar!), then train to Florence, then train to Rome. Fly home from Rome.

Or if you MUST start in Florence, just reverse it - Florence to Rome, to Colmar, to Reims, to Paris and fly home. OR Florence to Rome, train/fly to Paris, go to Reims and Colmar, then train back to Paris (fast trains).

Without pricing it out now but having done so in the past, I'm going to say it's ALMOST guaranteed to be cheaper to buy point-to-point tickets instead of a rail pass.

I have not visited the Moet and Chandon caves. Does spending a lot of time at Chandon in CA count ;-)
