How do I get to Cinque Terre by train? Do I have to transfer at La Spezia? What connection do I get from La Spezia and how do I get around the towns. If i get a cinque card do the shuttle busses go from town to town or just inside the town. I know the train goes through all of the towns do I have to paz again to get on the train instead of using the pass I bought to get there? Sorry for the many questions but I,d reallz like to go and the transport is a little confusing as this is mz first trip to Europe and I alreadz got nailed for not validating mz eurorail ticket. Appreciate any help!!
There are dozens of trains a day departing for Pisa, La Spezia and the CT. Depending on the run you choose, you will change trains in Pisa, La Spezia or both. It's the way it works.
Once in La Spezia Centrale, you can purchase a 1-day Cinque Terre Treno card which permits unlimited train travel between La Spezia Centrale and Levanto in the north. It also covers the fares on the the famous coastal trails and it covers the mini-buses in the towns. As a general rule, the mini-buses do not go between the 5 towns. You can only do this by train, ferry or by foot. The Cinque Terre Treno card is not good on the ferry. Make sure that the CT Treno card has the Trenitalia logo on it. You can buy this card in the Tourist Information office on the same platform as the La Spezia Centrale train station.
If you have a Eurail pass, it will work well on the local Regionale trains to the CT and the train rides between the towns. I don't think that it will cover the fares on the coastal trails or the fares for the mini-buses. Unless you are going high up in the towns, you won't need the mini-buses. The one exception is Corniglia.
I was just in Florence & Cinque Terre. I really, really encourage you to stay in CT for more than a day! It's soooo beautiful & relaxing!
