florence to athens

I am spending a month in Florence in June. Wanting to go to Athens over a weekend. Any ideas on inexpensive travel.

Athens is long ways with a lot of water in between. The cheapest probably will be a discount airline.

Flying is the only way you'll get there for a weekend. Greece has cancelled all its international trains (which would take you far too long, anyway), and the shortest ferry crossing from Italy to Greece is still 15 hours, plus you'd need to take trains on both ends to boot.

Ryan, As the others have mentioned, the only solution for a weekend trip of that distance is to travel by air. Check This Website for information on budget flights from Florence to Athens. There doesn't appear to be any flights from Florence to Greece, so your best bet for cheap flights will be from Milan / MXP. The website indicates that both EasyJet and Aegean Air operate on that route. You'll have to check the details. Happy travels!
