Florence taxi from SMN station to Piazzale Michelangelo and back

I'm planning to take a taxi from Firenze Santa Maria Novella station to Piazzale Michelangelo (probably one evening after dinner) to check out the view. My question is: how easy or difficult will it be to get a taxi back? I assume there's no taxi stand there like there is at the train station. Or is there?

I know about the "AppTaxi" app to calls cabs. But of course calling a cab to my location adds an additional cost to the taxi fare, which I'm trying to avoid if possible.

From Google A1

Yes, there is a designated taxi stand (called Taxi posteggio Michelangelo) located on the southwestern corner of Piazzale Michelangelo. Taxis frequently wait here for tourists, though availability can vary during peak sunset hours.Taxi Stand Details & AlternativesLocation: Far corner / southwestern edge of the parking area and arc at the square.Calling a Cab: If no cars are waiting, you can call Florence RadioTaxi at +39 055 4242 or +39 055 4390, or contact them via WhatsApp.Bus Option: Public ATAF buses 12 and 13 run between the city center/train station and the square.

Taxi rank is marked on google map.

Yes, if you’re on a budget..or even if not….the buses are great in Florence.
The app CityMapper is great to plan routes in real time.
You can tap and pay now, I believe, or buy a few tickets from the nearest “Tabac” shop selling cigarettes, candy, etc.

If you like panoramic views, walk down to the city center. It’s easy, nice views, takes maybe 30 minutes.

Agreed, Marco! We walked both ways but DOWN hill will be easier, and the view will be in front of you.

We did just this in January. We went to the taxi stand at SMN, and asked if a driver would be willing to drive us to Piazzale Michelangelo, wait for us for about 20 min, and drive us back. The taxista was more than happy to, and quoted a modest price that we were happy with. I don’t quite remember what it was, which tells me it was not exorbitant.

I have also done it by public bus but my travel companion wanted a taxi.
