We are planning a trip to Europe. One leg of the trip is London to Milan. We are trying to decide whether flights or trains would be a better way to go. Easy Jet has a good flight, but we have 3 check on pieces of luggage. Does anyone know if they allow this? Thank you
Thanks!! Checked baggage.
You need to use the web. Go to easyJet.com to work out your personal needs luggage wise. If time is restricted I'd definately fly (otherwise it's a long long long train trip with connections I believe overnight train). That said, if you use any regional air carrier (like Ryan air, British Airways etc.) check out their web pages. Domestic (EU) airline baggage is VERY resticted to those of us in the U.S. That third bag is really going to cost you. Why do you need 3 bags? Perhaps the blog can help you with that. Special medical equipment, PROFFESSIONAL musical instruments etc. is waived and so forth.
This is from a recent post by Franklin:"Here's Easyjet's baggage policy, taken from their website:Baggage AllowancesEach passenger is permitted* One standard piece of hand baggage to maximum dimensions of 55x40x20cm, and * Up to 8 pieces of checked-in hold baggage to a maximum combined weight of 20kg. A fee per kilo for excess weight is charged at the airport prior to departureThat means one carry-on with dimensions up to 21.6 x 15.7 x 7.8 inches. And in addition, up to 8 pieces of checked in luggage but the checked baggage cannot exceed 44 lbs per passenger."My comments: If checked baggage per passenger exceeds 44 lbs, they are known to be strict about charging (I think it's now about) €9 per kg (2.2 lbs) that you're over the 44 lbs. There is also a €9 fee for the 2nd checked bag, with 3 checked bags between the two of you that should only be €9, as long as your checked baggage, per passenger, does not exceed the 44 lbs.
Thanks Kent,
I couldn't seem to decipher some words. Thanks for the help!!
Judy, regarding your train vs plane question: Are you planning to visit Paris? If so, you can take the Eurostar from London to Paris in a bit over 2 hours. From Paris to Milano is about 8 hours; you can take an overnight and save a day and a hotel expense, or take a day train and enjoy the spectacular scenery out the window. If you aren't visiting Paris, fly. PS, you might consider packing a bit lighter; 3 check pieces is a lot for most people-just a friendly suggestion.
You need to ask yourself if you are going to see Europe or to see London and Milan. Kind of like saying has seen the Pacific Coast by flying from San Franciso to Seattle instead of driving. The Swiss Alps, for example, look better from the ground than from the air.
Thanks to all of you for your responses. As much as I would rather travel by train, we have decided to fly. Since the goal of this trip is to connect with relatives, we want to spend as much time with them as possible. Some day we'll return and enjoy the train, as we often do in U.S.
Thank you and Ciao
