Hello, any recommendations on travelling from Florence to London? There seem to be a lot more choices if one leaves from Bologna. Any experiences with EasyJet? The reviews seem quite mixed. Thanks!
EasyJet is a fine budget airline in Europe. However, as with all budget airlines in the EU, you need to carefully read and understand the travel conditions - especially the luggage weight and measurements. Also, the check-in requirements. The extra fees more oversize luggage or incorrect check-in methods can result in a lot of extra fees. I'm betting that this is where a lot of the bad reviews come from. The flights are great.
Bologna and Pisa are each an hour from Florence, so look into flights from all three airports to see all the options. Of course, you have to allow the time and cost to get to each airport to make a fair comparison. As Larry said, the business model for EasyJet and the other budget airlines is to have low base fares, but then to charge for everything they can possibly think of. Furthermore, they don't allow any leeway on their rules, further increasing revenue. For instance, if you bag is one cm smaller than the allowed size, you WILL be charged an oversized fee. If you buy your ticket with a credit card instead of a debit card, you will pay a fee. Etc. As long as you understand this going in, they can work fine. Thanks. We ended up deciding to traipse up to Bologna and use Easy Jet. I liked that "aria" very much!! Let's see, I've already paid the luggage, the credit card fee...who knows what else is coming my way.
"who knows what else is coming my way." Be sure to check in on-line, before you get to the airport. Most of the discount European airlines charge a penalty to check in at the airport. I actually first heard this in the song, then learned it was true.
Two weeks ago we flew Milan to London on Easy Jet. We paid online with our credit card, paid for that fee and paid for our bags too. Since we didn't have access to a computer to check in, we did so at the airport with no added fees. One tipthere are no assigned seats no matter what your ticket says. It's a first come-first served basis. Now I know why everyone was standing in line for the gate before they announced boarding. Other than that, it was a typical flight. They come around with drinks and even sell Gatwick Express tickets into London for the same price as on the ground It's worth it, less hassle. Basically, it's a great flight for the low price.
