Booked a RS tour from Paris to Rome for June several months ago. Want to start in London to visit friends and show daughter that city, but have been agonizing over purchasing airfare. Although I'm closer to Sacramento, I hate changing planes, so looked at flights from SFO, focusing on Virgin. A bit of a nervous flyer and didn't wanted cattle car for 10 hours each way so have been checking fares for Economy Plus. It was a around $1700 rt last summer and has been creeping up. Finally I realized plain econonmy was around $1200 on any airline (for flights that didn't take 17 hours and involve several stops) and I booked us at $1900 a peice yesterday on Virgin. Seat selections showed there weren't many seats left in that class. Today that same round trip is $1000 more each!! ($2900). We would never been able to have swung that so it appears I did the right thing. Economy might have gotten better closer in to our trip, but I don't think there's any way to have done better for a higher class. We doing Ryan Air from Rome to London after our tour to pick up our flight back and those prices were really low.
You will totally love Virgin! I flew with them for the first time in May and I'm looking for deals with them again for next October. Even in economy I felt spoiled, and the Premium Economy seat amenities are even nicer.
I hope so! On my previous 2 trips to London, I flew with them both times in economy. The first in 2000 with husband and it was absolutely wonderful. We did feel pampered. The second trip was in 2004, on my own for business, and it was a completely different experience Back of the plane, crowded, worn and service was poor. Alough it was tough for me to pay more, I've heard Economy Plus is much nicer...it will be good to arrive in London feeling less frazzled!
