Flight Tips from Flight Attendants via the Washington Post's By the Way

Many of these flights tips deal with topics that have been discussed on various Forums. Some were new to me. Both articles are relevant and very recent. I love the subtitles.

"7 rules for red-eye flights: No bare feet or lavatory hogging."
Overnight flights are basically giant sleepover parties with strangers. Here’s how to behave.

"Will dressing up get you first class? Flight attendants debunk old myths."
Yes, they have secret places to sleep. No, they can’t give you an upgrade.

Well, at least this wasn’t one of those misleading articles that told you that dressing nice would get an upgrade because those are hysterical. Dressing nice will not get an upgrade. If you sit at the airport, sometimes you can watch people try. Also telling them that it’s your anniversary birthday, etc won’t help.

But one of the key statements is, they’re not allowed to help you lift your bag into overhead bin. I know that some people out here think that some person or the flight crew is going to lift my carry-on thatI can’t handle into the overhead. Do not assume that, if you cannot lift into the overhead, you need to check it. I no longer help people- it’s not that I’m rude. I helped somebody once. I think she had lead weights in there and I injured myself. I’m done - I’m not injuring myself and messing up my vacation because you felt like you needed to carry on the plane and you can’t handle your bag

I do wonder what those flight attendants must do on airlines where people in business class and first class are given pajamas. 😂

IME, on flights where business/first passengers are given PJs, the flight attendants usually (though not always) tidy up the forward cabin lavs throughout the long flight, to ensure they're reasonably clean all the way to the destination - imagine that! (I've seen this more with foreign airlines than the US carriers, might be a sore point with FA unions).

BTW, those PJs are pretty nice, and make it easier to get some good sleep during the flight (in fact, I'm wearing some ANA PJs right now as I type this...sorry/probably TMI, but I gotta admit, they're really comfy and heck, it's Sunday...).
