Flight tickets to Zurich or Bern from SEA

Hello everyone,
I have been wondering regarding booking our flights from Seattle to go to Switzerland-either Zurich or Bern. I've been folowing the fares and they seem to be around $917-$995 from Zurich and around $1200-1250 for Bern. We don't mind taking a chance and waiting till the end of September. (FYI: We hope to fly out on October 23rd and fly back on Nov 1st.) I know last year things were different but when I was following the fares, they were around $550 or so to Zurich from SEA last minute. We have decided on a cap of about $750 (that is if we find a fare for $750 , we'll buy it immediately)
I'd just like to hear people's opinions on if thye think fares might go down since we are goign during the shoulder season.
Thanks in advance!

Sounds like a good price for me, especially to Zurich. Prices have been going UP thanks to fuel costs, not down.

Last year's airfares have nothing to do with this year's airfares, because of the increase in jet fuel cost over the last year. Last year's airfare ripoff is this year's airfare bargain, unfortunately. Now none of us here know what's going to happen to airfares, we're all consumers of airfares and not industry insiders. But it's just a plain (and unfortunate) fact that the increasing cost of jet fuel has put huge upward pressure on airfares--it takes 20,000 to 30,000 gallons of jet fuel to get a 747 from Seattle to Zurich and if the airlines' cost to get the plane to Europe increases by $60,000 in the space of a few months and there are 400 seats, well, that's about a $150 per seat fuel surcharge right there and that's what we've been seeing. Part of the charging to check baggage thing is another way to reimburse the airline for their increasing cost of the jet fuel required to get your baggage weight to the destination. They can put it on the seat or on the bag, it's the same to you. The trend has been for airlines to increase their fuel surcharges. Airfares in October are generally less than in August--but except for that factor, does there seem to be any reason why airfares would decrease? I don't see it. What would change this is if gas price decreases significantly in the next few months and have you heard of any predictions of that? I haven't but maybe I've missed something.

For Zurich, that's only ~ $500.00 each way. That sounds pretty good to me. I've been watching airfares for the past couple of months, and they just seem to be going up. With the way fuel and airline costs are going, you may wish to consider purchasing sooner rather than later.
