Hello, so I've only purchased my own tickets overseas once before and I am hoping to go on a trip in August 2010 with my fiancee to Germany/Switzerland. I have quotes flying (open jaw is it called?) from new york to berlin and then from zurich to new york for $1050 per person for the whole trip.
Is this fare a good one? Is there a good chance I could get it down to 700-800 sometime in the next few months?

Yea so the current dates I was inputting, just for now, were August 2nd depart NY and August 20th depart Zurich.
Every site (including the one you linked) I try, I can't get it below $1050 per person.
Are you saying I might consider booking this flight, in say, March?

If you wait until next spring, you could miss out on a great sale.
While it's doubtful that there will be any great sales for next summer before the end of the year, if I was you, I'd start watching the fares and look for sales right after New Years. The airlines are hurting for cash and may push to sell tickets earlier than they normally would.
The "old" rules for airline fare sales are ancient history.
And start subscribing to the airline's weekly airfare specials. You will then know when a particular airline is having a fare sale.
For that routing you should also subscribe to the newsletters of Lufthansa, Continental, Swiss and Air Berlin as they all fly more or less nonstop to those cities from the NY area. www.airberlin.com
